4 Things to Do in Finchley

Stephens House (also known as Avenue House) is a Grade-II listed building with grounds located in the heart of Finchley. It was acquired in 1974 by ink magnate Henry Charles Stephens, who expanded the house and grounds with the assistance of the renowned landscape gardener Robert Marnock.

The estate was bequeathed to Finchley council in 1918 following the death of Stephens, based on the condition that it was made available to the public. Stephens was the inventor of the blue black ink, and you will find a small number of exhibits in the conservatory, including the evolution of writing equipment through the ages.

You can enjoy visiting the gardens all year round, free of charge, whilst house viewings must be arranged in advance (which are also free).

    1)  Great North Leisure Park

There’s something for everyone at the Great North Leisure Park in Finchley, an all-in-one entertainment centre where you can catch the latest blockbuster films, grab a bite to eat and impress friends and family with your finely tuned bowling skills.

The Vue cinema is open 7 days a week, offering 8 screens and more than 2,100 seats. Enjoy 2D and 3D releases with 4K picture quality and Digital Dolby Surround Sound, and it also hosts several Big Screen Events across the year, including sports, music, theatre, opera and dance performances.

Or head across to the Hollywood Bowl for a spot of ten pin bowling where you can while away the time on one of the 26 lanes. There’s fun and games for everyone to enjoy, complemented by a designated VIP area, an American inspired diner, fun amusements and a fantastic bar.

If you want to grab a bite to eat in the leisure park, you’ll find the likes of Pizza Hut, McDonald’s Wagamama, Nando’s and Bacana all on hand to tempt you.

    2)  Clowntown Children Activity & Play Centre

Whether it’s on the weekend or during the half-term break, it can be challenging to keep the kids entertained. Due to how busy the centre can get, they advise that you book in advance to secure a place – and it should also be cheaper than arriving on the day.

The Clowntown Children’s Play Centre has been a long-standing fixture in Finchley after opening its doors to locals in 1994. It remains one of the largest and most popular indoor activity centres for children in the area, giving them a place to let loose and have a whale of a time.

Parents with toddlers can enjoy a dedicated section for children under 1 year old. Clowntown is also a great place to throw a birthday party, with special deals available throughout the year.

    3)  Cherry Tree Wood

Cherry Tree Wood offers the ideal local getaway if you need somewhere to stretch your legs for a leisurely stroll. Located on Finchley's east side, it covers 5.3 hectares and is protected as a Local Importance for Nature Conservation.

Before the local council purchased the park at the start of the 20th century, it was once the hunting ground for the Bishop of London and exists as a remnant of Finchley Wood.

There’s plenty of wildlife interest to explore, along with tennis courts, play areas for children aged 2-14 and a café. Local events are held in the park at different points of the year, with fun fairs also pitching up during the spring and summer months.

As local experts within Finchley, having established our Squires Estates Finchley Branch way back in 2004, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t keep up to date with all local amenities that may benefit Finchley residents, new and old. Whether you’re looking to relocate to North West London and are looking for family-based fun, or an old faithful and part of the Finchley furniture and wish to know the latest updates on what’s on in your local town, such as the redevelopment of the Great North Leisure Park, we are here to help.
